I painted this mural on the wall of a renovated old tenement. The building used to be a library and a meeting place for writers and book lovers. In reference to the atmosphere and history of the place I wanted to invoke some of this hushed embracing silence and tranquility in the persona of the librarian.
The mural is part of my ongoing series of linear human portrait studies. I’m drawn to the simplicity and elegance of linework, and I think it’s a fitting way to capture the essence of a person. It was first time I did it in such scale just by using a brush and a pencil for a sketch.
Concept sketches for a client
Making ofthis mural took place in June. I used Tikkurilla Finngard facade paints and painted from hired scaffolding and lift in the last two days. My process throughout my stay was spiced up with many encounters with locals and workers from Poland, Belarus and Ukraine who was doing the renovation.
